The Royal Trail

Overview

No one kingdom ruled a part of India for 610 years like the Ahoms did. Reason enough to know who they were? Where lie the tombs of their kings and generals? Their palaces and places of worship? Their origin? Their nemesis? What role did they play in shaping the geo-politics of the region? How could they successfully stop the mighty Mughals from treading beyond Bengal?

Ahoms were not the only powerful kings that ruled Assam. There were the great Koches whose celebrated general Sukladhaj flew like a sila, kite, in warfare, baffling the enemy, thus earning the sobriquet Silarai. Cooch Behar in present-day West Bengal was the creation of the Koch kingdom. Who were the Koches? What made them so powerful that they could face umpteen invaders from Bengal including the Mughals?

Have you heard of the Sutia and the Kachari kingdoms of Assam? The Kalita country? The Borahis, the Morans? And the Moamoria Rebellion, the biggest peasants’ revolt of the 18th century?

Want to visit their edifices? Want to hear their stories? The contribution of Assam’s royals to Indian socio-political and cultural history?

If it is a yes, we shall reach you pronto!
