Leh and Ladakh
Arrival in Leh. Upon arrival, you will be assisted by our local representative for hotel transfer. Take complete rest for the day for acclimatisation to the high altitude of Leh (11,500 ft/ 3500 metrs). Overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast, drive downstream along River Indus in the scenic Leh – Kargil Highway. Start your sightseeing with Hall of Fame (Museum built by Indian Army) near Leh, worth a visit for every Indian, and proceed further to Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, nestled deep in the Himalayas. A drive of another 4 km will take you to Magnetic Hill which defies the law of gravity. A further drive through a picturesque landscape will take you to the confluence of the Indus and the Zanskar rivers. Drive further to the over a century old Alchi Monastery; its wall paintings are very similar to those of the Tabo Gompa in Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. Unlike other monasteries which are usually on a cliff top or cling to a mountainside, Alchi is at ground level and is nestled in the shade of a garden. Later, drive to Leh for night stay.
After an early breakfast, leave for the Pangong Lake. Enroute, visit the Shey Palace, the ancient capital of Ladakh; also 3 Idiots fame Rancho School and the Thiksey monastery, an impressive complex rising tier upon tier on a hill above the Thiksay village. Drive further towards Changla Pass which is at 5,486 metres. The long easy ascent takes you to Changla pass through its winding roads passing through the picturesque Sakti Village. Stop at the Changla Pass for a quick photograph session and drive down to the village of Tangtse, where you can relax for a cup of tea. Leaving Tangtse for Pangong, pass through few small villages of Changthang and finally have a sudden breathtaking view of the Pangong Lake, situated at 14,000 feet (4,267 m). This famous blue brackish Lake of Pangong is 5/6 Kms wide and over 133 kms long with half of it running on the other side of the India China border. Drive back to Leh for overnight stay.
After breakfast, drive to Khardung La, the second highest motorable road in the world located at 18,390 feet, around 39 kms from Leh. Return to the hotel for hot lunch.
Later in the evening, you can stroll around the market place of Leh for some last minute souvenir shopping. Overnight at Leh
The tour concludes with a drive to the Leh airport to catch a flight for your onward destination.
